You write english well, but...

Indlægby AbU » søn maj 14, 2006 01:55

Salam / Hi everyone.

How was your weekend? ..

I was wondering something.. Do any of you people feel any trouble by getting nervous when you speak english with an english-man ? - Or anybody else who speaks english? .

Even people who writes english very well, have problems with speaking it, when it comes to a simple conversation with a english-speaking person.

Do any of you guys feel the same? -If yes, pls explain why and how.

- Or do you speak better than you write english? .

Pls be open-minded and honest with your answers. Thanks

Peace
AbU

Salam...

I don't think I speak English better than I write but people keep tellin' me that my English is very good, and that it sounds like I've been livin' in a English-speakin' country :) So I guess it's all good  I have a really good friend from England. His Danish is not really fluent, he puts Engslish words and sentences when he speaks Danish. I do the same thing. Not because of him but that's just the way I talk :) But no, I don't really get nervous because people keep tellin' me how good my English is, and because I'm used to the language now :)

Yes I can still get nervous when speaking to people with English as their native language, though I have been speaking English regularly since I was ten years old.

What makes me nervous is not insecurity about my own ability to express my self, but anxiety about if understanding them correctly, especially if they speak very fast and have got a very elaborate language.
Med venlig hilsen
Erik

Hi Don W

Do you actually feel the same when you want to talk to a foreigner? Or are you use to it now?

Wasalaam :).

I write English better than I speak it. Because yeah, I do get nervous when I speak. I don't know why. When I talk to my friends I'm fine...I guess I just feel self-concious around strangers or people I don't know so well. But funny enough, I always get complimented on my English, regardless :). I have a friend who's 3/4 English; he obviously speaks English daily so when he tells me that my English is perfect...I feel a lot more confident speaking it and even using difficult words and slang. It has happened some times where I actually had to explain to HIM what words mean  8).

Selam / Hello everybody

Exactly! The same Moonlight. I think i'm pretty good at writing English than to speak it :(

I havn't any ideas about how it can be better.

I do not use the language in daily life, and it's a well known fact that you can only be better to a language if you use it active. But unfortunately I do not have possibility to speak it except at schoole.

How can I be better to speak it? Do any of you have good ideas about that?

PS. I'm not good to learn English if I hear music or like that.

Vesselam :)

Hi Khurram! I think you write English VERY well! It's great, really. You should practise more on the speaking part, if you are unsure about it. You could use Paltalk or Skype to talk with other people from across the world, who also wants to practise their English.

If you have a Skype account, we could make an arrangement with some others, so we all could talk in a conference :D
Its actually pretty fun ;)

Peace
AbU

Salam Aleikum ZamZam

Skype is more like a person2person voicechat. But with the new version, you are allowed to make a conference with 4 others, so that you are 5 in one voicechat-conference. It's full-duplex, which means you can hear each other constantly and text-chat at the same chat. The sound quality is great, and the whole program is actually perfect.

www.Skype.dk You can read more about it on danish, and download it there. I'm sure that there are some sisters here with skype, that you can get to talk with, or else you can search for "chatters" from the whole world, and search by different filters like, female, age, location and so on.
People who are on "Skype-Me"-Mode , are usually people who wants to practise their English, especially skype users from China, Taiwan and those Asian countries :)

Well, it would be best if u bought a headset, which is very cheap actually. Check your local PC store or Merlin/Fona/Føtex, you can find headset for like 100-150kr.

If u already have headphones, then u should probably go for a mic which costs around 50-100kr -

Headset is pretty neat tho ;)

Khurram skrev:Hey Abu thanks for telling about skype but i dont really know how to use it, i have installered on my pc but how do i come in contact with other people from different countries, i know i have to add someone to talk with them, what about if i wanna make a phone call how do i do that, and is it free to make a phone call?

Salam Aleikum

In order to make phone calls, you will need to buy credits/amount from skype.com, which is cheap but still. If you want to make cheap phone calls from PC to Private Phone(in countries outside Denmark) I recommend "VOip Buster" . With that program, you will only need to buy 10 Euro amount, and then you can actually call as much as you want, to the whole world. You actually get 1 hour free call to all private phones in the whole world, as a demo.

Skype is more build for PC2PC ;)

Yeaaah, I know what you mean . That's the good thing about the English language . When you speak it you can make all the movements you like and you can't really go wrong   . Except you might, to some people, seem to be FRENCH or something  .
